The basics of a neck lift

The basics of a neck lift

One of the most common problem areas for people who have lost a significant amount of weight is the neck. Unfortunately, when you shed excess pounds, the neck is one of the areas of the body that doesn’t tone up from exercising. Aging can also dramatically change the look of your appearance in the neck area. Even genetics can lead to your neck being less attractive than you’d like. In any of these situations, a neck lift may be ideal for you.

In recent years, neck lifts have grown in popularity as a common cosmetic surgery procedure. If you are dissatisfied with the look of your neck, it’s helpful to know what the surgery entails.

What Can a Neck Lift Do for Your Appearance?

A neck lift can dramatically change your appearance for the better. It addresses your jawline and profile and can take years off your overall appearance. With this type of cosmetic surgery, you can be left with a more youthful appearance and a slimmer, sleeker neck. The following areas can be addressed with a neck lift:

• Turkey waddle or loose, sagging skin in the neck area
• Double chin
• Excess wrinkling of the skin on the neck
• Excess fat or drooping skin in the lower portion of the face

Are You a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

While most people are good candidates for neck lift surgery, it may not be appropriate for everyone. Generally, certain criteria can determine whether you are a good candidate for the surgery. That includes the following:

• You’re in overall good health
• You don’t smoke
• You don’t have any medical conditions that may impede the healing process
• You have realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the surgery

Just like with any other type of cosmetic surgery, you must acknowledge exactly what the surgery can and cannot achieve for you. You should always go into the procedure with realistic expectations and a positive outlook. When you have these attitudes, you are far more likely to be satisfied with the results of your procedure.

What Can You Expect During a Neck Lift Procedure?

Neck lifts are surgical procedures, which means you will first receive anesthesia to numb the area. You may be able to choose the option, but the surgeon will also discuss which one is best for you based on certain factors.

The doctor makes an incision that normally runs from the top of the ear to the lower hairline on either side. Afterward, they make improvements to your neck based on what level of lift you prefer. The surgeon may remove excess fat and sculpt the area to create better contours. He can also reposition and tighten the tissues below the skin, reposition the skin and eliminate any excess.

In the case of a double chin, the surgeon can make an additional, small incision so that liposuction can be performed. The area will also be tightened afterward.

What is Recovery Like?

Before you can leave after having the surgery, the doctor will provide you with instructions for your aftercare. Follow them carefully to ensure your recovery is smooth. You will probably have a drain near the incision site to prevent fluid buildup. You may have some bruising and swelling for a few weeks, but it will heal and you’ll begin to notice better contouring of your neck and jawline.

How Long is Breast Augmentation Recovery?

If you’re considering breast augmentation, it’s common to feel a little overwhelmed at the process. In order to have a successful procedure, it’s important to make sure you take the right steps at every stage with the help of your board certified plastic surgeon. As you begin planning your consultation with Dr. Carpenter, here’s what you can expect from your breast augmentation recovery.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Because each woman is different, your recovery period will vary based on your unique surgical plan. A variety of factors can affect recovery time for breast augmentation, including the size and type of the implants used as well as their placement. In general, the average recovery period for breast augmentation is between four and six weeks. During this time, you’ll need to rest and recover, including avoiding strenuous activities and exercise.

What to Expect After Breast Augmentation

For the first 24 hours after your procedure, you’ll likely experience tightness, soreness, nausea, and fatigue. Some patients also notice a loss of breast sensitivity. Bruising and swelling are common but will begin to fade with time. After your procedure, you’ll be advised to rest for at least a couple of hours to allow the anesthesia to wear off fully. You’ll need a friend or family member to drive you home. Ideally, it’s best to have someone available to assist with your care at home for a few days.

It’s common to experience discomfort and pain during the first 24 hours after your procedure. Dr. Carpenter will prescribe pain medications to help you get your rest, so take these according to directions. This might also include anti-inflammatory medications to help with swelling. Most pain and discomfort subsides within a few days, and you may feel comfortable returning to light activities around the house. Based on the nature of your job, you might be able to return to work within a week or two. during this time, you should still avoid heavy lifting or raising your arms over your head, since this can irritate your incisions and bother the implants. It can be helpful to massage your implants to relieve muscle tension and ensure they don’t develop too much scar tissue.

During the first month after your breast augmentation, most discomfort will have subsided. Any bruising and swelling should be mostly gone. At this point, Dr. Carpenter might clear you to begin returning to light exercise. You should still avoid any strenuous activity. Additionally, you will need to continue wearing a front closure bra or a post-surgical bra to promote healing and support your implants.

Most patients who undergo breast augmentation will have recovered fully within four to six weeks after their procedure. However, your final results can continue to settle in as your implants adjust to their natural position for around one year.

Recover in Time for the Holidays with One of These Procedures

It might be too late to start planning a bigger surgery like a breast augmentation or tummy tuck if you want to recover in time for the holidays, but there are plenty of nonsurgical treatments that can give you effective results! Some of our most popular nonsurgical options include:

A SAFE lift or, suture assisted facial elevation, is like a less invasive facelift! Using techniques such as liposuction, conservative skin excision, and suspension sutures, this procedure can treat mild to moderate sagging in the face. Because the skin is not lifted off of the tissue like it is in a traditional facelift, the recovery is much quicker with less discomfort. Most patients can return to normal activity within one to two days with a full recovery time of five to seven days.

If you want to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles without an invasive surgery, you might consider Botox. Botox is an injectable treatment that temporarily limits muscle contractions that are causing wrinkles. The treatment process only takes about ten minutes and can give effective, lasting results after just one session.

Cellulaze Cellulite Treatment

Virtually all women report having some degree of cellulite. Many individuals make the mistake of thinking cellulite is a result of excess fat, however, cellulite is actually a structural problem with the tissue beneath the skin. Cellulaze targets cellulite at the source using laser energy. The energy is delivered to the dermis to produce stronger skin and increase elasticity. After treatment with Cellulaze, you might experience some mild symptoms like bruising and swelling, but you will be able to return to all normal activity within a day or two. Get the result you want in time for the holidays with one of these treatments! To schedule an appointment and find out what you are a candidate for, contact our office today.
